Clarkson is located in the City of Wanneroo, 34 kilometres north of Perth.

The area has a resident population of about 7000 and covers 2.1 square kilometres. Development commenced in the late 1990s, prior to which the area consisted of vacant bushland and sand dunes. It is now a fully developed and fully serviced community with houses, a shopping centre, many service businesses and a rail station that takes commuters to Joondalup and Perth.

It is bounded to the west by Mindarie and Marmion Avenue, to the north by Merriwa, Ridgewood and Hester Avenue, to the south by Tamala Park and Neerabup Road, and to the east by Neerabup National Park and the rail line to Perth. Mindarie Keys Marina and the Indian Ocean are located about 2 kilometres to the west.

A number of public open space parks are located within the area.
