Menzies is located 728 kilometres east-northeast of Perth and 133 kilometres north-northwest of Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields-Esperance region.

The town contains a nursing post, plus contained a police station which was closed due to budget cuts. The station was previously manned by two officers who's beat covered an area of 145 thousand square kilometres.

It is a good gold prospecting and fossicking area, although permits are required. Some excellent historic buildings, including the town hall with its clock tower can be seen in the town. The Hotel and a caravan park provide visitor accommodation.

The town has seen many changes over the years, and the resident population usually stands at about 60. This number can however change rapidly as mines open and close in the area. The town has a hotel that serves food and cold beer, plus a roadhouse with all the usual amenities.

The old state battery, is in prime condition and well worth visiting. The nearby Sand Queen Gold Mine which is owned by Reed Resources, was initially opened in 1904 and was reopened in 2006 after being abandoned for many years.
